On Tuesday 14th March we held our first ever careers day as part of National Careers Week.
We were introduced to lots of interesting careers and some familar ones.
Year 5 and Year 6 met an architect, a fashion designer and an opera singer. Year 4 and Year 3 met a meterologist and a navy reservist and Year 1 and Year 2 met someone who makes fans and someone who delivers first aid training.
In the afternoon we all got to hear about the type of roles involved in the police and fire services and the DLR.
Here's what the children thought about the sessions
"I enjoyed learning what DLR stands for and about the jobs. I didn’t know there were lots of different kinds of jobs like dispatcher and passenger service agent."
"I really liked the fire fighters because they don’t only put out fires. They’re like a doctor and a firefighter at the same time. Like if a house is crumbling down they would go and help. And I liked learning about the special mask that helps them breathe."
"We got to see Tom’s [the fire man’s] fire gear and he put his trousers on his shoes. They only have 60 seconds to get ready."
"I learnt that police dogs use a scent to find people if they can’t find them."
"I was so amazed that she went to lots of places with her fans like to birthday parties and festivals and the church."
"I really enjoyed Sam’s mum. She talked about the navy and the differences between the army and the navy."
"We got to try on the hats. It made me feel like I was in the navy."
"I liked Sam’s mum. It was really awesome because I learned lots of things I didn’t expect to hear. They have an ice cream machine on the boats and they eat ice lollies if they’re sea sick."
"I didn’t know how much you need to do to become a meteorologist."
"I found it really interesting. It was about him travelling to lots of different countries and studying the weather. He went to Australia and he studied the weather."
"I was confused about the meaning of meteorology like if it was about meteors or the weather but now I know what it means."
