Oracy

Our school is rooted in a culture of talking and listening, both socially and academically. All voices are valued and everyone feels heard. Through teaching oracy explicitly, our children have the confidence to articulate their ideas and opinions. Through discussion, they ask questions and develop their thinking, enabling them to explain their reasoning.

Staff receive regular training as part of the work we have been doing with Voice 21. This has given staff the skills they need to support children from Nursery through to Year 6 to develop their oracy skills.

Oracy is being developed across all areas of the curriculum. Children are given 'Nesting time' which provides space for them to formuate their thoughts and sentences they wish to share. They also have discussions in Talk Trios.

On Tuesdays children from Year 1 to Year 6 have a Topical Talk session. Over the past five years we have discussed a wide range of issues which have touched on local and national issues and light-hearted issues.
