Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education

At St Alfege with St Peter's Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education forms a key part of our wider PSHE curriculum. Through Relationships Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education, we equip children with the skills and knowledge to recognise and form positive and healthy relationships, how to keep themselves safe both on and offline. It also covers aspects of puberty.

In the Spring term there are two units in the Year 6 curriculum which relate to sex education; one relates to conception and the other relates to pregnancy and birth. Parents have the right to remove their children from one or both of these sessions. We are however, more than happy to show parents the materials used in both of these lessons to enable you to make a more informed decision.

A full overview of RSHE, which is covered as part of the PSHE curriculum, can be found here.

We use the Kapow scheme of work for RSHE teaching this subject.

Over the next academic year we will be consulting with governors, parents and the diocese regarding the changes that were made to the Statutory Guidance on Relationships and Sex Education and Health Education (England) in July 2025. Schools have a requirement to ensure the changes are implemented by September 2026.
