Gustav Theodore Holst was an English composer, arranger and teacher. He is best known for his orchestral suite The Planets.

Holst attended the Royal college of Music and although he played several instruments, he discovered a passion for composing.

The Planets was composed between 1914 and 1916. Each movement of the suite is named after a planet of the solar system.

The Planets was first played publicly  on 27 February 1919 by the  Royal Philharmonic Society Orchestra.

Music from the suit has been used for many movies, TV adverts and documentaries.
