Physical Education

The Physical Education curriculum encompasses a wide range of physical activities which include Dance, Gymnastics, Games, Athletics, and Swimming.

Physical Education promotes a healthy lifestyle and vital life-skills, such as leadership, team work and a sense of fair play. It helps pupils to develop self-esteem and confidence, as well as improving physical skilfulness, competence and knowledge of the body in action.

Year 5 pupils attend a weekly swimming lesson at the Arches Leisure Centre in Greenwich. The annual Sports Day, which usually takes place in Greenwich Park, is a favourite event on St Alfege`s calendar, when each of our four houses (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) compete for the Abdoul Kone Sports Trophy.

Years 1, 2 and 3 have weekly multiskills sessions with Mark Merridan, the West Greenwich Consortium sports co-ordinator.  This develops their hand-eye co-ordination, team building and listening skills.
