Inclusion

Special Educational Needs

Our commitment to Special Educational Needs stems from our belief that every child matters and deserves to have excellent teaching and support in place to be able ‘to dream, strive, achieve and celebrate’ their successes in all areas.

We monitor and track the progress made by all pupils and through this we are able to identify and support pupils who may require additional provision. We offer support in many different ways, ensuring that all pupils are able to access the curriculum. When a child is identified as having a special educational need, after consultation with the parents/carers, we may place the child on the school’s Record of Need. The child’s progress is then regularly reviewed through targets that have been set on an Individual Education Plan. In some cases, support and guidance may be sought from external agencies such as Educational Psychologists or Speech and Language Therapists.

We always aim to work in partnership with parents, carers and pupils at each stage of the identification and support process in order to achieve the highest levels of progress possible.

Self-Referral

Within the school there is a Community Project Worker who works with children who may have acute difficulties and also gives support to their families.

This is a vital area of support for children where they have a degree of autonomy in making decisions with regard seeing the Community Project Worker in relation to any area of their personal well-being. This year areas for concern for children have been friendship difficulties, bereavement, family breakdown, difficult relationships with siblings or other family members.
