Number Facts

Children's knowledge of basic number facts is key to them becoming fluent mathematicians.  At St Alfege's we have a systematic approach to learning number facts.  The facts are split into two separate groups (Addition and Subtraction, Multiplication and Division).  Each group is further divided into four levels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John).

Here is a visual model of how the levels build on each other:

The children begin at a level appropriate to them.  They receive a set of triangles to help them practise the facts they need to learn.

Each week the children take part in a timed test of 30 of their facts.  The children progress to the next level when their test answers are consistently error free and completed within 2 minutes.

Number Facts Workshop

A huge thank you to any parents who came to the workshop on Thursday 18 March.  It was great to see so many people there.  For those that were unable to make it, the PowerPoint and help sheet are available below.
