SIAMS (Church Inspection)

In May 2017 St Alfege's was judged to be an 'Outstanding' school in its Church Inspection.  See here for the report (SIAMS Church Inspection Report).

Religious Education

At St Alfege's, we follow a rich and broad Religious Education syllabus which is provided by the  Southwark Diocesan Board of Education. Children enjoy learning about the Christian faith through exploration of bible stories from both the Old and New Testament. We learn about, develop understanding of and respect for other faiths.

Collective Worship

Collective Worship is highly valued at St Alfege’s and is integral to each school day. The whole school gathers together every morning to join in prayer and reflection. Worship is varied and diverse in its delivery and is regularly led by teachers, the clergy as well as the children themselves who lead class assemblies once every term. Our worship echoes the fundamental teachings of the Anglican Church and is planned in line with the church year, providing opportunities for children to engage in Christian celebrations and events as well as acknowledging and learning about the celebrations and events of other world religions. Each half term, we focus on one of our school’s Christian values of; Cooperation, Courage, Love, Kindness, Hope, Thankfulness, Respect, Perseverence, Honesty, Forgiveness, Service to Others and Trust. Children learn about each value, look at how Jesus demonstrated the specific value and consider how they can live out this value in their own lives.

At St Alfege’s we greatly appreciate the strong relationship we have with St Alfege’s Church. Children regularly visit the church to enhance their learning and understanding of the Christian Faith. In addition, the school children lead regular services at the church including at Harvest, Christmas and Easter. Once a month, children prepare and lead their own worship in the form of a Family Service where parents, friends and parish are invited to join them.

Our children take an active role in collective worship and are invited to lead prayers each week. Once a term, each class plans and prepares their own child-lead collective worship.

Voicing Our Values

Voicing our Values is a new initiative for September 2016. Each half term we welcome members of our local community to come and talk about their own experiences of living out our school values.

Easter Service 2018

The School Prayer

Dear Lord
Give us the confidence to start our day in a positive way.
Help us with our learning.
Guide us through tough times and help us to respect each other.
Give us the strength to be good role-models and to love each other as one family.
In the name of our Lord Jesus.
Amen
