Beyond the Classroom
At St Alfege’s we value working in partnership with parents and carers and we feel that home learning is integral to every child’s development. Reading at home, either with an adult or independently for the older pupils, is an essential element in developing children’s literacy skills. Home learning for the younger children may include talking about their school day, looking for numbers, or reading shop signs and other words occurring in their local environment. For older pupils there may be practical as well as written tasks. Mathematical tasks include learning number facts and accessing the IT programme, Mathletics, at home. Our Parent-Partnership leader also arranges regular curriculum workshops for parents/carers so that they can become familiar with the way children learn basic skills at St Alfege’s.
